I recently worked with a couple looking to buy in our area. They were cash buyers so an inspection was not required. Thankfully the couple decided to do an inspection anyway. The home they were buying was advertised as being remodeled which would leave one to believe that the house was in good shape. The inspections revealed that there was bad wiring in the home, so bad that one light switch made a sizzling sound when turned on! The flooring up under the bath was rotted and the shower floor was the only solid piece under the bath. There were buried gas tanks on the property as well. These are just a few of the things the inspections revealed.
It is definitely worth the money to have inspections done on any home you are considering to purchase. The couple above were able to get out of their contract and found a home that was in great condition, but had they not paid for an inspection it would have been a totally different story.
On the surface a home can look "move in ready" and in fact be nothing but one problem after another. Play it safe and get an inspection!
